Whenever I tell someone that I am an Internet Marketer, they get a blank look on their face and look confused. I can see the wheels spinning as they’re trying to figure out what the heck an Internet Marketer is. Sometimes they’ll ask, sometimes they won’t, and sometimes they’ll assume. Just today, a young lady from grammar school asked me what I did and when I told her, she said, “Hmmm. my brother sells scam internet packages too. Do you make any money doing that? He is always broke.”

I explained that I did not sell scam internet packages and that I sold some products but I did a lot more than that. I then went on to tell her that I was honorable and that I used my various marketing and writing skills to make money online. She was like, “whatever” and then started talking about her cheating boyfriend. Whatever. Well, I’m writing this post in order to explain what exactly an Internet Marketer does and does not.

First of all, I am an Internet Marketer and my goal is to provide value to others. In the process, I also make money online. I am not a scammer – although some Internet marketers are (you know who you are) – and I am not involved in any elaborate pyramid or MLM projects. I don’t con people, either. Instead, I use my marketing and writing skills to make cash. Here’s how I do it:

  • I set up and promote informational niche websites that have been monetized with AdSense, Kontera, Amazon, Commission Junction, etc.
  • I develop short reports and ebooks that I can give away or sell on the ‘net.
  • I promote other people’s products and services for a commission.
  • I sell various physical and informational products via eBay, auction sites, and my own niche websites.
  • I run a freelance writer membership site.
  • I sell my freelance writing and consulting services online.In essence, I do what needs to be done.

Internet marketing is fun and allows me to use my God-given talents. It also allows me to pay my bills and keeps me entertained and energized.

So, like I told my grammar school friend, you don’t have to do shady and illegal things to be an Internet Marketer. You can run and profit from a respectable business online. You don’t have to sell shady internet packages and you can make money doing so! So there! Glad I got THAT off my chest!
