Every single day, I visit forums and hear writers complaining that they can’t make enough money to support themselves or their families. They complain that there just aren’t enough opportunities that they can take advantage of. And my response is, “You have none to blame but yourself and until you change your viewpoint, you’ll be stuck where you are.”

That’s right – their negative viewpoint is blocking their opportunities. By only concentrating on negativity, they can’t see the big picture. Let me put it to you this way – if you have good writing and marketing skill and are dedicated and willing to work hard, you can make money as an Internet Marketing writer. Now, you won’t get rich overnight but if you consistently work hard and diversify your opportunities, you will achieve your financial goals. The problem is that most people don’t have the dedication to stick it out and work this proven plan. And, yes, I know because I was one of them.

Although I was previously making over $1,000 a month with internet marketing, I wasn’t reaching my goals fast enough so I jumped ship. I said, “The heck with internet marketing and went ahead and took a short time ghostwriting gig that paid well.”

Luckily for me, it didn’t work out and I’m back now even more motivated than before. That said, I think I learned what went wrong last time:

  • I had doubts. I truly doubted that I could do it. I even questioned if other people were really doing it. In my mind, I kept struggling with visions of failure and success and failure kept winning out. This time, my vision of success will win.
  • I wasn’t focused. I kept going from this best thing to another. I never gave any one thing a chance to work. Instead I kept vacillating between too many projects. This time, I will focus on one thing at a time.
  • I wanted instant results and didn’t give myself a chance to succeed. Building an internet marketing business takes time to grow. You likely won’t hit your financial goals the very first day and that’s OK. In fact, most experienced marketers say that it took them 1-3 years to really get things going. I gave it a good 9 months and I then jumped ship. This time, I’m in it to win baby. I am determined to make this work out.
  • I also didn’t put enough intensity into working my plan. Yes I was hyped up but I lost steam. If you really want to see the results of IM, you have to work your buns off. No get rich quick nonsense. Slow and steady wins the race. In fact, I recently learned that one of my favorite IMers, Steven Wagenheim, works nearly 10 hours a day to make over $368 bucks a day. Yes, he is making over $11,000 a month but he works hard to make that much. Now, I won’t be able to put in that much time due to my young family’s needs but I can work smarter and harder with the time that I have and I can meet my goals of $6000+ in 2009 or $165 a day.

Well, that’s it for now. Gotta get back to work!
