For the past few weeks, I have been working hard to increase my PR for this site as well as all of my sites. By doing this, I’ve noticed that my Alexa ranking has improved tremendously as well. Now, this can only be a good thing! Hopefully one day, this Alexa rating increase will help me attract more advertisers and more revenue. If you’re trying to determine how to improve your Alexa ranking, know that it is possible. About a month ago, this blog had a ranking of 20,000,000+ and in less than a month it dropped to 858,151 (not bad if you ask me).
Here are some tips that I used to improve your Alexa score and tips that can help you too.
Use an Alexa Toolbar and Ask Your Visitors to Do the Same
Install the Alexa toolbar on your site. It is very unobtrusive and will give you a good idea of how your site is doing as well as how your competitor’s sites are doing as well. If you have regular visitors, ask them to install the Alexa toolbar. When the toolbar is installed and they visit your site, you will receive a higher ranking because the data is collected and used to rate your website. You might consider creating incentives for visitors to download the toolbar.
Using an Alexa Widget
Install an Alexa widget on your site so visitors can click on it. Each time a visitor clicks on that widget, it’s considered a visit. This is true even if your visitor does not have an Alexa tool bar installed. This is a fast and easy way to increase your ranking.
Write about Alexa
If you write informative articles about Alexa, there’s a great chance that people will link to your website. People who already have the Alexa toolbar installed will be visiting that link, therefore increasing your rating.
Social Networking or Bookmarking Sites
When information that you write is Dugg or Stumbled, you can drive a lot more traffic to your website. Many of your visitors will have the Alexa toolbar, and this will positively affect your Alexa rating.
Make Your Site Sticky
Use content that is meaningful and worthy of visit so that other webmasters and others who use Alexa will visit your website. This means that your content should be valuable, free of typos and grammatical errors, easy-to-read, and easy-to-implement. Keep your content updated and try to ensure that your information is ‘green’ or won’t date easily. For instance, we have a reader that owns a treasure hunts blog. Since he understands the importance of fresh content, he is constantly updating his blog original and informative posts about treasure hunting, metal detecting and geocoaching. Each blog post provides valuable information that readers can’t find elsewhere. When we talked, he indicated that he is focusing on building a solid site but is a little concerned with his lower Alexa rankings. I told him that if he continues providing great content and also follows the above tips, his Alexa ranking and traffic will improve too.
